(This post was last updated on: 10/19/2024.) If you are interested in starting a new hobby or two in the new year, you will enjoy this post. I have several hobbies that I enjoy and started a few new ones last year that I’ll carry over to the new year. I also have some additional ideas that you may want to try. Keep reading for ideas on new hobbies for the new year.
My New Hobbies I Started Last Year:
- Canning: I started learning how to can my own food. I have done several projects including fruit jams, pickled onions, bread and butter pickles and salsa. I have begun stocking these in my long term pantry and have given several out as gifts.
- Embroidery: I purchased a few cute embroidery kits and realized it has a large learning curve. I am still working on my first project.
- Thrifting: My husband and I have always enjoyed going to antique stores when on vacation, but towards the end of last year, I started seeking out the best thrifting spots and I really enjoy finding bargains on home decor.
- Volunteering at the County Animal Shelter: My husband and I restarted volunteering at our local county animal shelter twice a month cleaning out the kennels, bathing the dogs and getting all the pups ready to be adopted.
- Fostering Dogs: We also started fostering dogs which is something we have been wanting to get back into for years. We currently have our second foster dog through The Southeast German Shepherd Rescue and have been loving every minute. Say Hello to Brutus and Greta……
