(This post was last updated on: 2/16/24.) Who else has been on a cleaning kick since the weather has been starting to get a little nicer? I actually started spring cleaning for the first time in my life a few years ago. And it actually felt good. My house has never looked so good, well the downstairs at least, I haven’t started on the upstairs yet. As I was doing my cleaning, I came up with these Easy Spring Cleaning Tips for you!
Basic & Easy Spring Cleaning Tips:
- Take a trash can with you as you go room to room, throw anything away that needs to be trashed, don’t wait.
- Take a basket with you as well that you can fill with anything that doesn’t belong in that room.
- When you are totally done for the day, go back and sort through that basket of items and separate what needs to be put away elsewhere in the house and what can be donated. I am a big advocate to declutter while you clean.
- Get paper and a pen. As you finish each room, make a list of projects that need to be completed for that room. Make a second list of what you need to purchase for each room ie. new curtains, a plant, etc.
- I also always have a laundry basket by the stairs for items that I need to lug upstairs, and then items that I need to lug back downstairs.
- Sanitize all light switches and door knobs.
Living Room Cleaning Tips:
- Take everything off the bookshelves, dust and replace only the items that you want to keep
- Dust lampshades, ceiling fans, blinds, decor/ photos, vents
- Wash the walls, doors, baseboards
- Vacuum under all of the couch cushions
- Wash all of the blankets, pillows, curtains, couch covers
- Shampoo carpet/ rug
Dining Room Cleaning Tips:
- Wash curtains, table cloth, cloth napkins
- Dust blinds, decor, shelves, light fixtures, vents
- Wash walls, doors, baseboards

- Take everything out of the display cabinets, dust and replace only the items that you want to keep
Home Office Cleaning Tips:
- Organize loose papers; file or shred
